Two material decisions worth getting right

Practical guidance on contract-fabric specification and curtain light control for professional projects.

01

Specify the use before the textile

A contract fabric is suitable only when its documented properties match the real environment and maintenance plan.

  1. Define the application. Record the space, use level, light and likely sources of wear.
  2. Set measurable requirements. Name only the tests and values the project actually needs.
  3. Check care. Confirm that the operational team can maintain the material correctly.
  4. Review a current sample. Assess colour, scale, hand, drape and variation in relevant light.
  5. Keep the evidence. Save the exact article, colour, technical sheet and applicable certificate together.

02

Blackout and dimout describe different outcomes

Dimout substantially reduces light. Blackout is designed for a higher level of light blocking. Neither term alone guarantees a dark room.

The finished result also depends on colour, construction, track position, overlap, side returns and installation. Confirm the published result for the exact article, then design the complete curtain system around the required room condition.

General professional guidance. Exact values and compliance must be confirmed from the current manufacturer documentation for the selected article.
